I played little enough of Goblins, Inc. that I probably shouldnt even include it. But I paid for it, dammit, so here it is.

Ever go to a friends house for a game night, and they pull out some board game youve never seen, and explain how to play in a long ramble that leaves your head spinning, and then insist oh, its not that hard once you learn it. Yeah, thats Goblins, Inc., except I didnt even get the benefit of the friend's explanation.

GI is an extremely quirky game with a very developed aesthetic that really carries it. Im going to bet the gameplay is actually pretty interesting, too, if you can dig into it. Goblins is literally a board game that was designed to be played on a computer, and as a result, they can do a lot of things you probably shouldnt do with a physical board game (but nothing that you couldnt do.) If there were a real world version, it would easily cost sixty bucks because of all the pieces and the high production quality on everything. And before someone says it, I checked. Yes, there is an actual board game called Goblins, Inc., but its not this game.

Id tell you what the goal of GI is, but honestly, I never committed to it enough to figure it out. The game is very card-focused you have cards in your hand that you can spend to either perform your move or to do stuff, and spending cards to move that you wanted to play for their effects feels a little weird. Im sure it adds to the strategy once you figure out how all the systems work. Im just easily intimidated by massive learning curves. (Ask me how my Crusader Kings II experience went some time.) I probably should have returned this since I decided quickly I wasnt going to play it, but instead it sits on my account, eating up SSD space.

Should you play it?: I honestly dont have enough experience to say one way or the other.

Next: A Switch game that disappointed
