Wish you could play an objective-based puzzle game based on it when your friends arent around? Congratulations, youve got dorfromantik. Unlike the other games weve seen so far, dorfromantik was an unfinished product. It had been created for a game jam, and the developer made it clear that it could still be a work in progress, assuming there were people interested in seeing him continue. The design is simplistic, with a play-until-you-run-out-of-pieces paradigm that is fine until you realize the game is abruptly over and youre left wondering why you cant continue. dorfromantik features hex tiles that have several different map features on them, including trees, farm fields, houses, and train tracks. Youre given a piece that you need to place against the map youve created so far, and you have three objectives to complete. Create a region of at least six trees or create three regions with two fields each, for instance. Each time you finish an objective, youre awarded with additional tiles on your stack. Eventually, the objectives because too restricting and youre unable to finish them before youre out of pieces. I have no idea if the games are supposed to be as short as they are, or if they could be longer but I just suck. I think its the former, but I could certainly see a game running longer with the right combination of luck and strategy. Anyway, the game was fun for the ten or so playthroughs before I moved on to explore more of the itch.io bundle. Should you play it?: If the developer expands on it, yes, Id recommend. Even as it is, its a fun little diversion for an hour.
