I mean, gamers know who he is and most of us liked at least a game or two, but I imagine Sega drove off whatever fans he might have had after years and years of weirdly terrible games where they tried to transition him from his shaky 2D roots (which, as a concept, probably works good as replays but the speed gimmick doesn't work when you're going through a level for the first time) to 3D.

Capcom took the opposite approach and just tried to starve Mega Man fans >_>
