People coming into your house to rape and kill you is not an at all likely event. I would argue far less likely than an accident caused by having a loaded firearm on your person/in your home, but I haven't checked the evidence to back this. I've had my home broken into twice. On both occasions they waited till I left and then stole all my shit.
