Lol no. If you have a gun for defense you keep it as close to you as possible. In a night stand, or in a mattress holster.

Isn't this exactly against the basic rules of having a gun though? Like isn't this how people and children end up in most gun related accidents?

I am not experienced with firearms so excuse if I'm being ignorant on it. But what I have read and heard suggests that you can't just keep loaded guns out somewhere anyone can reach them.

When you are up and moving you take it with you and secured on your person.

And who knows if they only want your TV? You have no idea what their motives are. What if they want everything you have? What if they just want to break in and kill you or assault and kidnap your wife and kids?

You dont know.

I don't know if a helicopter is going to crash on my house and obliterate me into pieces in 5 seconds from now, it just seems very unlikely and not something worth planning my life around. And having a loaded gun on my person at all times seems like an outrageously huge responsibility for a "just in case" scenario.

I don't think gangs of armed murdering rapists are especially interested in coming to my home like the opening plot of the Punisher, but I also suspect that if that was the case then a 9mm firearm by my nightstand might not help.
