Hitler lost his last election for the German presidency, and the Nazis never won a majority of the Reichstag in a free election. The other parties vote to give him emergency dictatorial powers, which he used to end the democratic system. And yes, the first thing Hitler did when he became chancellor was to get the KPD banned.
