DAY 28.3: Still/Born
On Shudder (And I believe Free on Youtube)

This is a movie that was freaking powerful stuff.

Still/Born is about a mother who had twins, but one didn't survive. She then deals with post-partum depression while a demon is trying to take her child.

Christina Burke plays the mother in this movie and she absolutely kills it. She does such an amazing job and it's just so impressive how much she killed it. I hope she gets more work.

But as for the movie itself, it's mostly carried by her acting. A lot of things that happen are similar to your standard ghost movies like Poltergeist and whathaveyou. I was just kind of like "This is pretty good." But man. Right before the third act, things get really, really, really freaking good.

The third act of this movie is done so well. The plot comes together in such a huge way during that part and you just find yourself on the edge of your seat. The conclusion in particular is outstanding. I was ready to give it an alright score, but the third act changes that entirely. It rockets it up to something really, really good and worth watching.

The postpartum depression part is also what makes this feel more unique, and everything about it feels so real. The dialogue in this film feels the most natural, which makes when shit gets real feel even more natural. Just an exquisite script that makes this movie worth watching.

Check out Still/Born! I think you can even watch it for free on Youtube! But it's great! SHUDDER WINS YET AGAIN!
