While people praise him for the reconstruction, it wouldn't have been necessary if not for his destruction. Can you solely blame the president for all the other factors that led to the Civil War? And I'd say the destruction of slavery was a pretty big step towards the nation achieving the ideals it set for itself. So the destruction was necessary.
