Let's say you and your friends make something up. Let's also give it a stupid name like KBurito. Everyone who hears about the KBurito thinks it sounds made up and has a stupid name. However the more you and your friends talk about it without naming it first the more people who overhear you become concerned about what you're talking about and ask. Soon there is an ever growing group of people panicking over the KBurito.

Is the KBurito responsible for this?
What is the president going to do about the KBurito?
How does the president not know about the KBurito?

One group of people still think it sounds made up and has a stupid name. They don't know what people are panicking about.

Meanwhile the group of people panicking over the KBurito don't actually know what it is either. They just heard about it from someone else.

So yes. I do prefer that the president not be part of the 2nd group.

That's an elaborate defense for not being informed about topics in the media, especially when members of his own administration have been asked about those topics.

You could perhaps say that whether he knows or not doesn't change anything, but anyone who has read into the conspiracy theory would (hopefully) dismiss it as mental illness.

This doesn't cut good either way. He's either poorly informed, which I doubt, or willfully avoiding any substantive stance on the topic. Saying "They are crazy, next question." is not hard; he just chooses not to. The alternative is that he's just not paying attention. Wonderful quality in a president.
