Is it fair to compare music to math? Honest question. I get that theory is describing certain relations and there are perhaps some constant elements, but at the same time I would think we would be remiss to say, for example, that there's a correct/true way to make use of consonance and dissonance given how the subjective reception thereof can vary so widely. Or supposing I was working on a song and had writer's block - music theory could uncover various ways forward but ultimately I couldn't necessarily "solve" the problem in as far as one way forward wouldn't necessarily be better than another
Its only unfair if you think it somehow lessens it, like is that one math trick where you do the stuff to your phone number somehow less fun cuz its math? Is there a correct in abstract painting or storytelling. Naw man. I mean you could sit there and break down other songs and plug em in where you got stuck but then thats up to you a if thats okay or not...idk...im not an artist or philosophizer. Lol
