What was watered down and boring about the gameplay?

If anything it offered the most engaging battle mechanics of any Bioshock game. There was heavy action, with a focus on moving around every battle area, and using tears to hell you in fights.

Then there was the selection of powers that mixed things up and let you experiment fighting your own way. Gears also helped with this by giving you unique battle powers to further tailor your style.

Weapon swapping also forced you to make a choice on which guns you want to stick with on your journey, and kept you from being a one man army the entire game.

Hallway corridor levels, dumb upgrade system combined with only two guns that encouraged only using the best founder weapons, no storage of healing or salt, no manual saving, no hacking, gears being random is way more awkward than gene tonics you can plan out and most gears are situational anyway, your choices mean nothing, the list goes on. Vigors, while overall better, are also less fun to use than Plasmids and are completely shoehorned into the setting unlike Plasmids which are integral. Tears were unique and one good thing Infinite added but I liked setting up traps in Bio 2 more. Overall, the gameplay is just more basic CoD esque FPS than the more RPG traits the first two had. Not even going to go into the story.
