DAY 15.3: The Wailing
On Amazon Prime

Oh my god this movie. THIS MOVIE. It is so incredibly good. Bar none, the best movie I've watched this month. What the hell.

The Wailing is a Korean film about a police officer and his family. He is investigating murders from people who appear to be very sick and zombie-like. The police officer's daughter begins to get sick, which correlates with a local Japanese man who people claim is a ghost.

I don't know where to start, but this movie has a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes. It deserves that 99%. I am actually in awe of the film I was just a witness to. It begins with a good amount of comedy, but it works well to help set the scene of the story.

Then we get some gruesome murders of people who appear to be ill, murdering their own families. Still, we're left lulling into a sense of comfort, until we see the extent of things. The director of this movie is a master at being able to put this movie together and keep scenes as light or as heavy as needed to contrast what you're seeing. You're laughing one minutes, then fucking terrified the next. It's masterful.

The plot absolutely blew me away. Just completely. This final act is INCREDIBLE. It was so tense and you actually have no idea what is going to happen at this point. Legitimately, it is done so well you just don't know what is going to happen. Jaw on the damn floor for this film when it was over. Such an awesome narrative that it brought us to this point that you just don't know what's going to happen and time passes and it's almost excruciating figuring out what is going to happen. Just a perfect conclusion.

This movie is two and a half hours long. Let me repeat. Two and a half hours long. But it kept me engaged through the whole 2.5 hours. I was just wanting to see what happens next in this film. I put this movie off for YEARS for reasons I don't really know, and I still don't know. But I wish I hadn't.

Go out of your way to watch The Wailing. You will not be disappointed. It's a masterpiece and a must-watch for horror fans.
