Escape rooms have seemed to really explode in popularity over the last couple of years. Like starring in your own adaptation of Myst, escape rooms give us a chance to flex our puzzle-solving muscle in front of a group of friends or total strangers. It's a cathartic experience, notably popular among hard-working businessmen and over-stressed people; in this sense escape rooms are actual "escapes" for people and that is a pretty cool way to get some pent up rage or stress release in a safe, positive way. Now personally, I have never been to one of these but I definitely would like to some time. The horror part of escape rooms can definitely vary, and most I've seen or heard of are more mystery or spy based, but there are definitely straight up horror ones too that features everything from a zombie outbreak to one based on Saw. In a way, I could see escape rooms evolving into the new haunted house, a more concrete experience people crave, and as they grow more elaborate with the incorporation of VR, they will only improve in quality. If anyone has been to one, let me know how it went!
