I don't think they are actual fake donations, they are very real. But they are going to be charged back. Up 120 after making said donation, a person can dispute it and have it refunded. So yes, it is monumentally stupid to try to troll Phil this way, because if Phil wins, the troll loses their money.

But this is what Phil means, a donation gets made with the intention to file a chargeback randomly within those 120 days.

This is also why he can use the chargebacks as a new "bills" emergency type scam. He doesn't have to provide evidence, just act a little distressed and say he lost money due to the chargebacks.

Now, I am not going to get into speculating how much this hurts him and how much of it is true, since Phil is the most unreliable source of information there is, even regarding himself. Several years ago he alluded to winning every single chargeback, he did this to pound himself on the chest to assert his dominance over the trolls: he got to keep their money.

Then, less than a year later, he won almost all chargebacks. And gradually less and less.

So there is no way of knowing if he wins or loses the majority of the chargebacks.
