I'm getting a dog and it will be allowed in my room for night crate sleeping only until it's about 8-10 months. Then the crate will be in the living room. The dog will have access to living room and kitchen only. It won't be allow on beds or couches. I can't imagine limiting it anymore in a house...Since my kids have small toys after a year or so I'll open their bedroom doors so the dog has access in there.
