That spot looks way better for it though. I think I was on 2-1 where there are two pipes you can bounce a koopa shell in between, and I somehow got the screen in the proper location for the shell to register hitting both pipes off screen and for the enemies to be summoned off screen. I thought I had that match in the bag, but eventually the enemies finally stopped spawning. I waited out the clock (I was in ! time and I didn't know about that yet - so I thought the clock was running down that fast for everyone!) and bolted with like 175 time left.
