FEATURED RIVALRY #1:

Link vs. Dark Link (The Legend of Zelda)

"This rivalry goes all the way back to Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, where Link has to face Dark Link as the final boss of the game. Known to be a really difficult game, (like pretty much all the NES games were...), Dark Link represented the final and most difficult challenge you had to face in order to save Princess Zelda from her slumber."

Fast-forward 11 years later, when Ocarina of Time was first released, and Dark Link decided to show up once again. In the middle of what many consider to be the most difficult dungeon in the game (and personally the most fun one, too), Dark Link shows up in a very special room characterized by a mirage and a lone, leafless tree in the middle of the battlefield. This particular foe also represented a very difficult fight to figure out since it's actually yourself you're fighting with, and it represents one of OoT's highest points. Even Navi, who gives you in-depth descriptions of what each enemy is like, along with their weak points, can only give you one apparently-useless-but-still-overwhelming: "Conquer yourself."

Truly, the most difficult fights we each have to face, are against ourselves. -Advokaiser
