Ann Arbor's kind of like the San Francisco of the North (to pair off with Austin in the South). It's never that surprising when you hear some story or another come out of there that comes across as being unexpectedly Left-leaning.

The slippery slope argument has never been true

That's not true. A friend of mine slipped on ice in my driveway and slid pretty far a while back. It led to a pretty big argument.

Also, like it or not, the slippery slope can indeed be true at times - the fact that it's often misused as a logical fallacy doesn't automatically negate every instance where it's used.
