I could see Sam trying to move in for a chokehold and the Beast easily resisting, though at that point I think Sam can get away and regroup before the Beast gets in a good hit. After that point, Sam could pick him off with various weaponry. There are some scenarios I can see Sam winning, but not that one. Sam is a completely normal human in physical terms, and the Beast is emphatically not. If Sam goes for a melee attack there's no getting away and regrouping for him - he's done. Sam's best bet is his sniper rifle. Lots of time to regroup from a failed shot, and he could potentially just keep plinking from long range. Thing is, I don't think he opens with the sniper rifle against an apparently decrepit old man, and he loses most other forms of initial engagement. --- another place and time, without a great divide, and we could be flying deadly high ...
