It's basically "I have black friends," only with the added cuteness factor of children.

It's like "I have black friends" (which is a mitigating factor) with a lock-in of 18 years. It's a substantial restriction any actual racist wouldn't want to subject themselves to, and even if they choose to, must br capable of keeping their opinions to themselves and not effecting others with their racism. A racist who never does anything racist is not a problem.
