I wouldn't aim for athena dash until I was actually doing damage and athena's damage boons are kind of meh. I think her dash is decent even with other boons if you're just starting - the fact that it deflects is great for trying to maneuver if you're not great at dodging/reading attacks. And saved me a lot of the time in a certain room in Asphodel with the Twin Fists. Also, if you use a lot of Death Defiances there is a ~~special room in Elysium that allows to to recover all Death Defiances, so if you get lucky and see it you can use that for a quick refresh.
