My biggest piece of advice is get Athena's deflect dash literally every time it comes up. Easily the best "main" boon in the game.

If you're able to get any two of Hangover/Weak/Chill in a run, the "Privileged Status" effect of the mirror can be really powerful so boost that up (other status effects work for it too but those three are usually simplest to get and last long enough to actually be of use for Privileged Status)

If there's a specific build you want to go for, swap keepsakes between layers (once you've unlocked the ability to do so) to force certain gods to appear. There are only a few keepsakes that you would want to keep equipped for an entire run anyway.

Double Boons and Hammers should always be priority picks. Though if you pass up a Hammer early in the layer you have a pretty good chance of coming across it again later. Early in the game I would also make keys a priority, later on you can start to ignore them.

Chaos boons can become very powerful if you manage to stack multiple of them that affect the same damage source.
