Depends on the state, in many cases it means a sentence of 15 years or longer before the possibility of parole. If you're asking what an actual life sentence with no chance of parole is, the answer is it's a wrong thing that shouldn't happen.

So serial killers and mass murders just need to be rehabilitated before rejoining society? Its wrong to lock up someone who raped and murdered 20 people for life?
