Playing Shulk and not-Shulk was the difference between me being unable to finish the game and finishing with it turning out as one of my favorite RPG's, so I highly recommend being willing to switch. (To be fair, the attempts were years apart and there was probably other unconscious differences in how I approached the game, but yeah.)

All that said, the characters that I actually did like using you don't have access to yet. Reyn and the one you will get next I liked using even less than Shulk, but I would at least recommend trying out all the characters.
