Topic | At what age did you start working? |
IronChef_Kirby 08/14/20 1:55:29 AM #18: | I did a bunch of volunteering through my teen years and early 20s, but I didn't start "officially working" until my late 20s. I attribute most of that to Generalized Anxiety Disorder; I always got into this pattern of apocalyptic thinking when I was about to apply for a job. "If I get a job, then I'll be overextended and my grades will slip, and if my grades slip then I'll fail in school, and if I fail in school then I won't get a good career, and if I don't get a good career then I'll go broke, and if I go broke then I'll starve to death in the streets. So, if my grades go down, I'll die." In hindsight, that was silly, and I easily could have handled working part-time while going through undergrad, and even the beginning of grad school. I regret not having pushed myself more, because it would have gained me some confidence and much-needed life experiences. But, I've still managed to attain my dream job and by all accounts I'm doing well at it, so I don't beat myself up too much for letting anxiety and self-doubt win all those years. --- https://imgur.com/faC30Oe 3DS FC: 1375 7308 4517 ...
