It's not that China is immune to criticism dude. It's just that they are powerful enough now to do what they want. Americans aren't really used to other countries being able to do that. What they are doing in Hong Kong is no different than the what the US did all through cold war in South America. Don't like the government there? It's not friendly to your government or your business interests? Install your government that's more friendly. Is it right? No, of course not. But also just like the US, unless you are willing to go to war over it, there is literally fuck all you can do in the short term. In the long term, convince your businesses to pull out and make your country more less dependent on cheap Chinese goods and resources.


China is losing their economic advantage of cheap labor and are fully aware of it. Which is why they're offering loans to poor countries for building projects for trade ports and routes they know they'll never be able to pay for and they'll end up owning.

Make no mistake, the western world is in an economic cold war with China, the first totalitarian nation in history to adopt capitalist "economic zones" so they don't fall completly to the wayside economically. How this plays out will be the historical story of our time for better or worse.
