I don't think Biden would last 6 months before his full on mental capacity was gone and they couldn't hide it anymore and he stepped down. (He's too far gone already IMHO and what we are seeing is elder abuse) So the VP pick from the DNC was a VERY crucial one they had to get right. But he backed himself into a corner early on by saying he would pick a female and of color. This really limited their choices of who they could pick.
