So overall, I don't think The Mob Song is necessarily a better song than Gaston. Gaston is catchier, funny and more fun to sing along to. What The Mob Song is is a better villain song. This isn't Gaston hanging out in a bar, soaking up praises while being a cocky jerk; this is Gaston using his popularity and influence in the town to stir a bunch of desperately frightened locals into a murderous riot. To my surprise, this version of the song did that a good bit better than the original, adding some really nice extra lines to make this song less of an afterthought, like LeFou's "There's a beast running wild, there's no question. But I fear the wrong monster's released." You really get a sense of not just Gaston here, but everyone around him. Gaston isn't the dummy that could barely read a book, he's directly and maliciously manipulating people for his own horrible purposes.
