Ad hominem is replacing a valid argument with going after the other person such as name-calling, calling them emotional (with or without any indication that emotions are actually taking place), or calling people idiots. You do have a habit of belittling others because they do not agree with you. Lots of people try to side step ad hominem though with tactics like this. Its still ad hominem.
