Ad hominem is replacing a valid argument with going after the other person such as name-calling, calling them emotional (with or without any indication that emotions are actually taking place), or calling people idiots. I thought this was common knowledge Once upon a time, it might have been common to do this, but context is often key in addition to the term being frankly uncommon nowadays. Between the username of paper here, and your pattern of behavior on this forum, it's easier to conclude you meant the person and not their source.
