Topic | Anyone think beds are too expensive? |

With a lot of other furniture, it's not too hard to find quality (or at least make sure it's quality) at a lower price because used furniture is a thing. It's a lot harder with mattresses. wolfy42 posted... I bought my current mattress off Amazon for $100 a year ago. It came in the mail, you unrolled it and it expanded into a full sized and comfortable queen mattress (first time in 20 years I didn't have a king sized one, all my sheets are too big). Your average bed-in-a-box isn't going to last you all that long. You'd be lucky to get 3-4 good years out of it. Even a cheaper knock-off like a Bob-o-pedic, which is several steps above a bed-in-a-box, often won't get you 5 good years. I think my brother's went to crap in under 3 years. It's not that you can't find mattresses for $300 or less, it's more that they won't be great mattresses. And, as a general side-note, my cousin -- who this year might clear $100k at a job where his salary should have been about $50k -- has an inflatable mattress he keeps with him because he every 30 days or so he checks into a new AirBnB and he doesn't like the mattress. (As for why he just hops between AirBnBs, the guy is cheap as fuck -- he lives on under $600/month, so he could easily live on minimum wage while still saving if he wanted.) wolfy42 posted... Here is the mattress I got. It was actually cheaper back then, and I got it as the deal of the day for $129 total. I'm familiar with the mattress, it's a low-end foam mattress that generally doesn't hold up. --- (\/)(\/)|-| There are precious few at ease / With moral ambiguities / So we act as though they don't exist. ...
