Defying Gravity Source: Wicked "Villain": Elphaba Nominator: Snake5555555555 (1 left) Favorite lyric: I'm through accepting limits 'Cause someone says they're so / Some things I cannot change But till I try I'll never know https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEq3xM-i0Ng Villainy: 1 Characterization: 10 Melody: 9 Total: 20/30 Alright guys, my bad, this one's on me. By all means, this one PROBABLY shouldn't have been accepted. It's the only song in the ranking that would score negative on the Villainy score if the system allowed for it. Like Vis said, Defying Gravity just isn't a villain song. The only reason I allowed it (and the reason I assume it was nominated) is because technically Elphaba is the villain of The Wizard of Oz, but she's literally the protagonist and hero of Wicked. Defying Gravity is a song all about Elphaba embracing who she is, finding her strength, and pushing forward and learning to fly. The only villainous thing about it is the extras calling her wicked. That being said, after allowing the song into the ranking, I also couldn't put it any lower than this, because Defying Gravity is a fucking fantastic song. It's widely recognized as one of the best musical songs to come out of this century, and for good reason. It's an incredible, defining moment for both the character and the audience with remarkable vocal range. It's just not villainous. --- Khal Kirby, warlord of the Super Star Khalasar PSN/Steam: CheddarBBQ https://goo.gl/Diw2hs ... Copied to Clipboard! |
