Eh, that's debatable. Pikmin 2 did remove the time limit, and while I enjoyed it, it did take away any sense of pressure and the drive to be as efficient as possible. 1's time limit really wasn't that restrictive (finding 1 part per day isn't particularly hard, and you don't even need that to beat the game), and it did give more structure and urgency to the game. Really, both were enjoyable in their own ways.

Conceptually, I really liked Pikmin 3's idea for blending the two concepts. There wasn't a hard time limit, but it was possible to run out of fruit, so you did have a sense of urgency to maintain that supply. In practice, it was extremely easy to build up enough of a stockpile to last indefinitely, such that that sense of urgency disappeared pretty quickly (except for when all of the fruit gets stolen at that one point and it comes back very abruptly), but the concept was neat.
