Vital mechanics for example like defending are strangely absent in the beginning which inflates the games difficulty far more then it was. And all except a handful of monsters by endgame are worth using. Which is why you see the same 3-4 ones in most playthroughs. Making the monster capture system a waste of time. Which admittedly is a mistake many pokemon style battle systems make.
