Welcome to the two-party system, where everybody that wants their vote to have any sort of impact whatsoever has to vote for whoever they dislike the least because producing an actual decent candidate is apparently hard.

If a third party gets 5% of the national vote they get the same federal funding as the two major parties as well as a spot on the debate stage! It gets more feasible each election cycle as more and more people are disillusioned. I understand the fear of voting for one of the two majors if you live in a purple state depending on your affiliation, but if you don't have to worry about that, I'm a huge advocate for voting third party. In recent years it's usually the Libertarians that get the closest. I'm not one myself and think their platform is misguided, but they've got my vote.
