This is definitely worth listening to. It's a reading of a Michael Parenti essay on fascism in America. It was written in 1996 during the Clinton administration but still very relevant to 2020.

I'd especially recommend this to liberals who think that US fascism is only a Trump thing and that everything will be ok if a Democrat is elected.

Wow, that's an incredibly eerie description of exactly what's happening right now, especially the part about the complicity of centrists and the threat coming from the security state and anti-democratic efforts to maintain the status quo by the people already in power, rather than random skinheads.

It's incredibly important that people understand what fascism is and what it does. It's not all about death camps because Italy itself didn't even have those. It's about the open wielding of power to maintain a political, economic, and cultural elite, the scapegoating of the left, immigrants, minorities, feminists, all the usual suspects, and the open use of suppression against these groups. All of which is happening as we speak. It's always been happening, but now they're doing it even when people are paying attention and identifying exactly what's happening. And conservatives and centrists are defending those openly fascistic actions for what they are, rather simply ignoring them or never learning about them.

There's no getting off this train if we keep going past this checkpoint. We won't be able to put this genie back in the bottle and President Tom Cotton or Josh Hawley will do much worse than this, much more effectively.
