Huh. Those posters all read electronica to me, maybe psy-trance or retro stuff. Would have never guessed bluegrass in a million years. He's good though!

Edit: Jeez, Turmoil and Tinfoil is killer

i can see that, especially in the first print. his stuff gets preeeetty psychedelic at times, well outside of normal 'bluegrass' boundaries. the other night they played a 23-minute "All Fall Down" that went waaaaaaaay out into space and back. t'was quite nice.

This board introduced me to Billy a while back. May even have been you, TC

i know i posted about him a few months ago, maybe longer. glad you like him! if you ever want recommendations or just wanna talk about him or 'grass HMU.

I don't want to specify exact posters I do, it would be very easy to do a few websearches and pinpoint who I am by who I work for as I am the only person on the team that works on this stuff. I don't want CE to have my name and where I work, respectfully.

understandable. that's still real cool!

Listening through one of his albums now. Kinda getting Tool vibes from some of it - one track especially (Spinning).

Spinning is weird. he's only done that live a couple of times. BS is one of those music artists that really shines when they play live. don't get me wrong, the studio cuts are great tracks, but they lack the energy and exploration / improv of the live versions. plus the live shows have a BUNCH of covers. lots of old, traditional bluegrass tunes but also random ones like "Atlantic City" (Springstien), "Wild Horses" (Rolling Stones), and "Believe" (Cher).

if you wanna hear what he really sounds like, or rather, why i and most of his fans really like him, listen to his shows. i posted a real, real good one above (post #18). or you can hop on here and browse.

Yeah for example take a look at this music festival lineup just announced today. Billy strings is on the top line and then the entire line below him is electronic music, with the lineup being all jambands or Dubstep/bass

hot damn, i might go to that. lol @ three six mafia tho

if you really think about it it makes sensenot to be too pejorative as I do like jam, but for many people its just music to take drugs to

you're not wrong. it's called "heady" music for a reason -- it sounds fucking cool when you're under the influence. that's definitely how the jam and electronic/trance scene overlap.
