I bought a new coal bbq and thought it was broken/didn't work cause it wouldn't get hot enough and cook the food. Turns out your not supposed to cover it with charcoal even though there are air holes etc. I just used it again with the lid off and it worked fine. I tried it 3 times before that and couldn't get it to work before I figured it out.
