Gun sword seems to have the best of both worlds, but it's not as versatile and easy to aim as a normal gun. The advantage you have at close range doesn't make up for the much higher chance of someone actually getting in close to you, and gives you a significant disadvantage over someone with a normal gun at range.

The problem with a gun sword is that it generally sucks at being a gun and at being a sword, making it the worst of both worlds... and kinda pointless since you can also just bludgeon somebody with your rifle, etc (that and bayonets used to be a thing, which would turn a long gun into a spear which is more useful than a sword)

It's also less practical than just having both weapons individually. Which is kind of a shame because the concept is kinda cool, but most of them don't even look cool. Gun-spears are better to some regard because it's easier to incorporate a gun into a spear

ParanoidObsessive posted... There needs to be an option for "sword gun", which is obviously distinct from and different than a "gun sword".

I imagine reloading would be a bitch.
