I was thinking a lot about how they kept feeling the need to change Japanese things to be more western, and they just didn't realize that there was a whole young generation of me and other kids waiting to accept the Japanese things as they were I was thinking about the Kirby's Dream Land 2 commercial the other day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqVVG4FCq7w And it's absolutely bizarre to me that there was a day once where they thought they had to sell a KIRBY game like this. Kirby, of all things. I don't remember this commercial but I'm pretty sure it would have scared me off as a kid! It's so grotesque and mean when Kirby is so cute Pokemon wasn't the first thing to change this trend - I feel like Sailor Moon was also a trailblazer here - but I feel like the success of Pokemon killed this era of localization for good. Once everyone saw the cutesy Japanese schtick was beloved here, they knocked it off with this shit, and good riddance. ... Copied to Clipboard! |
