It probably helps for the first few years before making things ultimately way worse than before, to the point you wish you could go back to the original problems. I don't know though. Painkiller addiction isn't quite as bad. It's usually not as damaging socially. But it also doesn't really help you socially like alcohol can. Kind of just depends who you are, I guess.
