In the books *spoilers from books but i'm sure you don't care* Doakes gets cut up into pieces by a serial killer in cuba, but then gets put back together as roughly robo-Doakes, whose only role is to wander into Dexter every once and a while and try to make sarcastic accusatory quips which gets misread by a text to speech thing, which Dexter makes fun of. So, the writing in the show is to be praised in reference lol.
