I mean, nobodies saying "This game does not look like something I want to play" as if this is some kind of new IP they're casting judgment on. They're saying it doesn't look like something they want to play because the formulas strayed too far from the first two games. Which is a complaint.

I didn't dislike the last two Paper Mario games because they weren't like the originals, I disliked the last two Paper Mario games because I didn't think they were fun. The fact that they have the Paper Mario name just makes it a greater insult when they keep making them in the style that I don't find fun, where I have to acknowledge them as opposed to just ignoring them like any other series of games I don't like
