Her taking it slow with him sounds like there are trust issues with him.

You obviously have no intention of just being friends when you go out. But saying it's just friends hanging out gives her the opportunity to justify it to herself and say yes. Be smooth, show her a great time and make her forget about that chump of an ex that she isn't even serious about. At the end of that first date it should be clear whether there's a chance to go further. If there isn't, then leave it alone and look elsewhere.

I don't know much but i guess they were living together and argued a lot towards the end of it so the girl moved in with her sister.

Im definitely going to act cool and shit though around her still in case that goes south. I don't know about asking her to hang out 1 on 1 without the context of dating only because i know her sister and her husband well so including them would be natural and the default.

Though we both like taking photos so perhaps i could see if she would want. To do that
