She's probably not serious about this previous boyfriend. She's more than likely bored and he's a known, comfortable alternative to being alone. But there's a reason shit didn't work out for them the first time. Her taking it slow with him sounds like there are trust issues with him. You obviously have no intention of just being friends when you go out. But saying it's just friends hanging out gives her the opportunity to justify it to herself and say yes. Be smooth, show her a great time and make her forget about that chump of an ex that she isn't even serious about. At the end of that first date it should be clear whether there's a chance to go further. If there isn't, then leave it alone and look elsewhere. --- "Genetics is fascinating.
