I actually still need to watch the 60's version, but I'm totally with you on how campy the 80's movie feels. The actual musical itself is a lot darker though and I genuinely considered nominating Now It's Just the Gas, but thought Dentist! Would do better. Also I don't think Nicholson's character became the Dentist, because Bill Murray played that role in the 80's version.
