I wasn't sure what hypertrophy was, but that sounds like it's definitely closer to my lifting style since I focus on between 8 and 12 reps for most lifts. I was mostly doing that because I'd heard it was better for losing weight.

A big thing I see often, and my one friend who works out seriously says too, is that isolation exercises don't have a place in a routine and that only compound lifts should be done. What is your opinion on that? The only isolation move I do is curls, but they said it's a waste of time.
