But in this particular case the conspicuously absent percussion on that beat was brilliant on a CAKE bass level.

If your brain isn't asking what's missing on that measure or mentally filling in a double stack hi hat or cowbell, your smooth brain is never going to catch up to this conversation. There's only three sounds on earth that fill that spot. Two are brass percussion and one is silence and Fugaz's drummer went with silence and It's smarter than most punk bands deserve musically. It's something I'm always going to consider a musician's in-joke because it's going to go over the head of 90% of the audience if it isn't explained to them.
