I don't know jack about 3 d printers, but are ones that use metal availible to the general public? Surly you cannot make a rifle barrell, or receiver out of plastic.

youd need a cnc machine, which arnt as cheap, but are getting cheaper each year. assuming you had both and plans/or knowledge to make them you could make a complete firearm from scratch (and people do) and one that would last a considerable amount of rounds. its not as simple as going to the pawn shop, filling out a 4473 and walking out with a gun, but its getting to be less difficult, less expensive and having access to higher quality materials each year.

sooner or later its going to get to a point where if someone wants a gun they ARE going to be able to get one.
