The Alliance War has come to a conclusion. Portugal abandoned their attack on the real-world equivalent of Australia, seemingly content with their earlier acquisition of Bogota from Austria. France left the war soon after, ungrateful curs. I spent many turns bombarding their former city of Lyon, and rather than press the attack and take it back themselves, they retreat to lick their wounds. Eventually however, I was able to move a melee unit (a scout) over to take Lyon over, which I promptly ceded back to France, if for nothing else than to let them take the brunt of any potential further conflict. Additionally...

We succeeded in taking the coastal city of Ragusa, formerly a city-state wed to Austria. Breaching their defenses was no trouble at all, however they had a rather large amount of military forces ready to re-take the city once i captured it the first time. It took several turns to get another ironclad over there and take it back, this time with the full naval might of my battleships ready to mow down the Austrian army as they approached. Once we took ragusa for good, and took Lyon, we immediately negotiated a cease-fire to prevent retaliation. In total, Austria lost Bogota, Hong Kong, Lyon, and Ragusa from their territory. A successful campaign!

The World congress has graduated to nominating world leaders on alternating sessions. Austria was going to become host, with ourselves being 2 votes short, so we decided to put our votes towards keeping Indonesia host, as they are among our closest friends, and doing so keeps Austria out of the seat of power.
